Gender Summit

During the 27th and the 28th of January, one of my exploration has created an event called gender summit. The event happened for two days, one was for English and another is for Khmer. There are many students from lots of school that participate in this event. The event was divided into four different sections which were Culture, Power, Economic and Language. My role of the event was the leader of the culture section. At first I’m afraid I’ll make people feel boring, but the moment was unexpected and I can actually made people felt engage for my section. I was really happy on both day because everyone was really engaged with the event and learn a lot from us. At the final of Sunday, which was for the Khmer students, I and my friend wrote a rap song talking about gender and perform on the last day. Everyone seem to enjoy all the performance and observe a significant knowledge from our group

Football competition with EYC

During the weekend of September, Liger had a football competition with EYC. The game were for the junior boy, senior girl and senior boy. Before the match, I was pretty anxious because I’m afraid if I can’t perform well. The game has started, I looked at the other team player with an apprehensive face on my face. We did pretty good for about 10 minutes because we have a lot more ball possession than the other team and we got many shooting attempt. I scored the second goal but then the referee gave a sign that it wasn’t goal. I was really despondent about this, but after a few minutes, I scored a very difficult goal and I was really contented about it. Liger won the game with the final result of 13 to nothing. It was a great time because I got new experience with a new team and get to know more people.

Outpost Workshop

On the 27th of October, 2017, I participated in an event called Outpost Workshop as a part of my expertise class where we learned how to use the program called Unity, which is a program which used to develop game. It was my pleasure for this new opportunity to learn how to use this high-tech program which bring me to another level of creativity.

Investigation: Does different type fertilizer make a different in Chinese Convolvulus nutrients?

For the first seven week of the sixth year of Liger, I did an investigation about does different type of fertilizer affect the nutrients in the morning glory. The first two weeks, I planted the Chinese Convolvulus by dividing the bed into two parts, which are for chemical fertilizer and compost because I can see the difference between the nutrients in the Chinese Convolvulus. The instruction for using the chemical fertilizer is mixing the fertilizer with 1.5 gallon of water and then stir the mixture together before spraying on the plant. The last week of my investigation, I did the experiment based on the four main nutrients, which are protein, lipid, starch and sugar. After growing the Chinese Convolvulus, I did an experiment and it came out that both chemical the sample Chinese Convolvulus contain lipid and sugar which is the same as the sample Chinese Convolvulus. According to this experiment, different type of chemical doesn’t change the main nutrients in the Chinese Convolvulus, but it might change something else.

Teaching Junior Basketball

This year I and the other three students lead an extension which is teaching the juniors, both girls and boys who want to learn basketball. The first time I participated, I found it is very hard to get them to do some basic skills in basketball, but after several of weeks they started to know those fundamental skills such as lay up, some dribbling and shooting. One great thing to be part of this extension is to get in touch more with the juniors since I don’t have much time with them.

Time to Seperate

During the English literacy class, every student are doing the Narrative Writing. The theme for this writing is coming of age. But before writing this narrative, I did a research about the coming of age in Malaysia which is mainly for girl to do a ceremony to indicate that they are mature. My topic is to be seperated from my dad, which was a miserable moment. My coming of age depict my life when the time between my dad had I ended. Inorder to write this narrative well, it require the effort of learning some grammar, such as how to use different kind of clauses. Also the narrative writing should encompass some sensory information.

Below is the wordle of my narrative writing.

Khmer: Research Paper

In Khmer literacy class, we’re doing a project called research paper, but we only do research on the definition of a word phrase from several sources such as Cambridge dictionary, Oxford dictionary, Samdech Porthinhean Chuon Nath’s Khmer Dictionary and more. The reason we’re doing this is because it is a good experience for us when we’re gonna be a college students.

AP Statistics

This year in math, I am taking a math course called AP statistic for the essential math. AP statistic is college level of math which really a very great challenge for me. Sometimes it is very difficult to comprehend some of the context because it requires some of writing not just answer math problem. Another exciting and also very challenge is to learn how use a TI 83 calculator. This calculator is very amazing because it is very unique compare to the calculator that I have seen because I can graph a scatter plot, histogram and more . To be a great student in AP statistics class require you to study from multiple of sources such as Khan Academy, Ck 12, Textbook, Testbook and more. AP statistic is a very advanced math so it requires a lot of effort and comprehension to some of the reading.

Here are some of the questions in AP Statistics:

Inclined Plane Experiment

On the 18th of October, I had a physics lab about inclined plane, where we need to test all different materials to figure out the coefficient of friction.

There are seven objects which are five types of different sandpaper, cloth and wood. First of all we let the paper clip box on the wood and also the other six objects one at a time and see at which angle will the box start moving. We did three trials for one object and figure out the average angle. We use the average angle as ϴ (theta) to figure out for the coefficient of static friction. After that we just got to follow our equation which is F_g sin(ϴ) = μ*F_g cos(ϴ). Then this equation will become (F_g sin(ϴ))/(F_g cos(ϴ)) = μ. As F_g cancel out it will left sin(ϴ)/cos(ϴ) = μ, which is the same as tan(ϴ) = μ. Lastly we just replace the ϴ with the average angle and do the tangent of the angle and it will give the value of μ which we can also called as coefficient of friction. Then we just repeat the same thing to the other objects.

Change Cambodia

In this year, 2016-2017, I participated in five different exploration classes, but I feel like I made changes on three of my exploration classes which are Iron Deficiency, Geology and Climate Change. I noticed many problems in Cambodia, and as a result, I did make impact in three exploration courses, which I still feel great about what I’ve done to develop my country.

One of the main problems that my classmates and I found is iron deficiency in Cambodians. This is a condition, where there is lack of iron in the human body. This condition leads people to have another infirmity called anemia, which especially happen to women and children. We caught this opportunity and started doing plenty of research on iron deficiency through anemia and then we worked with a company called Lucky Iron Fish where they manufacture the iron fish to add to food, water, rice so that when people consume their food, there would be iron that has been released from the iron fish. During this exploration classes, I got an opportunity to go to Siem Reap with my other classmates. It was a very good time to be in one of the greatest tourist sites, I noticed in the rural area, that local Cambodians, looked pretty weak, pale, which indicates that they aren’t healthy. My team and I gave a speech to four groups of people at three different locations. Basically, I shared a basic information about anemia and my friends also shared a different type of information about how to address this infirmity by promoting them to use the Lucky Iron Fish. Lucky Iron Fish has donated us around 500 of their iron fish, and we had donated about 400 fish to the villagers so that they could use it and making themselves become a lot more healthy. Generally, from our presentation and the show, I feel like people really learned about this topic and know what they can do to prevent themselves. Based on what I’ve done in this exploration, I feel like I made an impact to my country and as the result, people knew what to do to prevent themselves from iron deficiency anemia.

Recently, there are oodles of news about climate change which is a conundrum that continue to occur for the whole world. World become warmer, some strange phenomenon happen that makes the whole wide world become very bad. This gave me an opportunity to learn in an exploration class call Climate Change. I knew that after this  There are three different we participated in the competition called Polar Bear International, so we were trying to find the solution to reduce the carbon emission. We set an experiment to see how many food that Liger have wasted during the school day, and we observed that there were plenty of food wasted for three weeks. We collected the data and started making a fun video about food waste message to educate people not to waste their food because if they waste their food, they will increase the carbon emission into the atmosphere which isn’t a good thing for the environment. After people have watched our video, it seem that there weren’t that many food wasted like before, which I really feel excited for what I’ve done. Moreover, I didn’t just educate the people in the school about food waste, but I also told people in my community about food waste and they really do not wasted many of their food. Also the video that my team and I have produced, have been in the competition and published onto Youtube, which I hope it would teach people not to throw their food away. Came out to an end, I feel like this was a significant impact to the whole world because this is the problem that need to start the action right now if we all don’t want it to get worst.

Another impact from this year is to be involved in an exploration called geology in Cambodia. First of all, if you would ask the Cambodian people what is geology, they would know nothing about it because it isn’t a subject that you most likely see in Cambodia and even myself, I also have no idea what this subject is. The first day I started in this class was pretty boring because I feel very confuse, but furthermore I started to be interested with this subject and understood more about it. We went on three different trips to study different types of rocks in Cambodia and how it form. After that we started to post the information on Facebook on what we have learned, because we realize that a lot of people in Cambodia are using Facebook, which is the reason why Facebook was our priority. Many people have read the information from what we posted, which I feel like I made a little change in the country by introducing this new subject that people have had no idea about to them. I think this would be a helpful thing because geology would be a part of the essential subjects in Cambodia. From what I’ve done in this exploration, I didn’t just learn about this subject, but I also made a very effective change to Cambodia, especially to the high school students who would faced geology in some part of the school’s curriculum subject.

In conclusion, according to what I have done this years, I have made three effective impacts to my country which were promoting people to use Lucky Iron Fish so they could become healthier, helping people to diminish their food waste and introduced people to learn more about geology. Even though the impacts aren’t very much, and there still problems in this beautiful country, I encourage everyone to start taking action and work on their own way and while I work on my own way so everyone could bring peace and a good progression to our pathetic country. Throughout what I’ve done this year, I feel very excited about it because I think that I am of the agency of Cambodia.
